Job Summary:

American Art Clay Company (AMACO) was founded in 1919 by Ted O. Philpott. AMACO is known for being the first to commercially manufacture ceramic and non-ceramic clays, lead-free glazes, electric kilns and potter’s wheels. We are looking for a Maintenance Technician that will be a part of the continuous improvement of AMACO. As Maintenance Tech, you will be responsible for technical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair with responsibilities associated with the manufacturing of various formulated and mechanical goods. Responsibilities/What you’ll do:


-Lubricate, adjust, and replace shafts, gearboxes, bearings, chains, gears and other devices.

-Inspect and repair various machines, equipment, and facility items using hand tools and specialized tools.

-Maintain a variety of production equipment (mills, mixers, conveyors, fillers, cappers, labelers, etc.).

-Facilitate basic maintenance of company vehicles and powered equipment.


-Troubleshoot and replace electrical/electro-mechanical parts (controls, switches, eyes, proximity sensors, etc.)

-Inspect, test, and repair equipment such as transformers, motors, controls, lighting fixtures, wiring and components.

-Source, configure, and wire AC and DC motors and controls.

-Rough-in and finish-out conduit and electrical wiring.


-Troubleshoot and repair faulty hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum systems and components, such as hoses, valves cylinders, pumps, etc.

-Diagnose and repair bulk material handling systems, consisting of blowers, valves, cylinders, air-slides, ducting, scales, bins, silos, connected to complex array of switches and controls.

-Maintain air lines, water supply, and wastewater/drainage systems for facility (offices, plant, & grounds).

-Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain boiler system (steam and condensate lines and related equipment).

-Clean and maintain HVAC and air compressor coils and provide basic HVAC system troubleshooting.


-Fabrication of mechanical devices, tools, and fixtures for various production needs.

-Design, build, and modify conveyors, cutters, guards, hoppers, tanks, lids, tables, carts, and other items

-Work with carbon steel, stainless steel, wood, plastic, fiberglass, etc.

-Utilize general construction techniques for various facility projects including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, concrete, etc.


-Troubleshoot and diagnose complex systems and machines using minimal available technical information.

-Utilize senses of sight, sound, smell, & feel for troubleshooting and detection malfunctions, wear, abnormal operating conditions such as slipping belts, overheating of electrical components, detecting leaks, identifying unusual conditions of machinery & systems


-Manage work through work orders, PMs, and written or verbal communication.

-Document work performed and report updates for maintenance documentation, including information for suggested PM revisions, equipment history notes, and relevant equipment manual information.

-Thoroughly coordinate work with management, coworkers, manufacturing staff, vendors, and suppliers.

Safety/Training/General Expectations:

-Cross-train, develop, and maintain skills relevant to the role, including onsite and offsite training.

-Pass respirator-fit test & training as required for use in various situations and conditions.

-Maintain training level to perform adequate maintenance performance.

-Perform work in accordance with general or specific Safety/Environmental/OSHA regulations and standards.

-Able to perform work in various positions in and around equipment and in confined spaces, as required.

-Must safely & effectively work at heights (on ladders, lifts, scaffolding, etc.) wearing a safety harness.

-Safely operate forklifts, high-lifts, powered machines, golf carts, lawnmowers, snow blowers, & other equipment.

-May be required to obtain/maintain licenses to operate powered industrial trucks, boom lifts, scissor lifts, or other types of equipment used to facilitate equipment and facility maintenance/repairs and accessibility, including valid driver’s license and lawful ability to drive company vehicles as needed.

- Manual lathe, mill, drill press, grinder, saws, benders

- 3 phase 208-480 VAC knowledge

- Understanding of blueprints, diagrams, schematics and manuals

Work Environment:

Our work environment offers on the job training and will include being on the manufacturing floor.

You must be able to work in hot/cold environments and be able to stand for prolonged periods of time. Heavy lifting will be required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 40+ hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.



No travel is expected for this position.


Education and Experience:

-High School Diploma or Equivalent required

-Maintenance experience in a manufacturing plant preferred.

5 years maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

(Example: 3 years’ experience combined with 2 years of related trade school or technical degree program)
