Job Summary:

American Art Clay Company (AMACO) was founded in 1919 by Ted O. Philpott. AMACO is known for being the first to commercially manufacture ceramic and non-ceramic clays, lead-free glazes, electric kilns and potter’s wheels. AMACO is a founding member of the Arts and Creative Materials Institute, which established safety standards for children’s art materials in 1936. Today AMACO continues to manufacture ceramic supplies with the highest standards of quality and safety.

We are looking for a Master Machinist that will be a part of the continuous improvement of AMACO.


  • Program CNC equipment via hand or conversational programming.
  • Trouble shoot and improve current CNC programs
  • Create and maintain production programs for CNC equipment
  • Install tools and maintain offsets
  • Must be able to design, create, and modify weld and drill fixtures
  • Organize lathe cell programs, tools/inserts, PMs, and flow
  • Create processes and drive improvement of programs, tooling sets, and cutting jaws.
  • Effective and efficient handoff of designed processes, programs, and flow to production
  • Thorough documentation for all processes and training to production, engineering and maintenance
  • Install fixtures and make machine control settings
  • Use proper inspection tools to inspect parts to draw, dial calipers, micrometers, dial bore gauge, etc.
  • Run and maintain multiple machines at same time as required
  • Use Manual and CNC machines to create Production fixtures, and repair parts for Maintenance, as needed.
  • Handle raw and finished goods, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


  • Must be self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Previous production environment experience
  • Proficient in production set-up
  • Proficient program and tool offset adjustments
  • Ability to read and understand Drawing and Blueprints
  • Quickly respond to machine changes via audible, visual, and vibratory observation
  • Must maintain efficiency to utilize machine capacity
  • Effectively monitor product quality and make or recommend tool/method changes when needed
  • Expert knowledge of G and M code*

*Tests will be required to verify these qualifications

Work Environment:

The individual working in this position must be able to work in both hot and cold environments. Standing for long periods of time and continuous heavy lifting is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 40+ hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


Light travel may be expected for this position.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent is required
  • Secondary education preferred
  • Certifications to operate listed machinery is preferred
